Welcome to Powerco's Engineering Virtual Experience.
Powerco delivers reliable energy to your door. We keep the lights on and gas flowing to around 1.1m customers (across 442,000 homes, businesses and organisations) in New Zealand’s North Island. In this virtual experience, you will get a taste of what it is like to work as a graduate engineer at Powerco.
This Virtual Experience Program is self-paced and should take only 4 to 6.5 hours to complete.
This Virtual Experience Program is free for all students.
When you complete the Virtual Experience Program, you’ll earn a digital badge and certificate you can share on Linkedin and include on your resume.
Throughout the program, you’ll learn and develop deep insights into what it is actually like to work as a consultant at Capgemini. Apply your engineering knowledge to a real-world problem & gain practical experience and knowledge to draw upon in interviews.
Investigating whether protection devices (fuses and reclosers) trip correctly
Evaluating and optimising proposals for new transformers
Evaluating Sub-transmission circuits
Choosing a location and determining the cost of a feeder installation
Module 1: Secret Road feeder trip investigation (30 minutes - 1 hour)
Investigate whether protection devices (fuses and reclosers) trip correctly and identify the possible fault location.
Module 2: Evaluate a customer proposal for a new transformer (45 minutes - 1 hour)
Provide recommendations to improve the low voltage network and high voltage network, and calculate the new maximum demand on the feeder.
Module 3: Name the phenomena (30 minutes - 45 minutes)
Name the phenomena and provide the characteristics of a type of discharge caused by a hairline crack on an insulator.
Module 4: Install a new transformer (45 minutes - 1 hour)
Calculate the load for the installation of a transformer to supply a new Joinery shop and adjust the voltage quality.
Module 5: Evaluating sub-transmission circuits (30 minutes - 45 minutes)
Identify and gather data on thermal constraints and voltage drops within sub-transmission circuits.
Module 6: Feeder installation (30 minutes - 1 hour)
Choose a location and determine the cost of adding a new CFCF RMU and TX to the backup hospital feeder.
